Ben Affleck Wins Directors Guild Award for Argo

Ben Affleck

Weeks after being snubbed for an Oscar nomination for directing Argo, Ben Affleck took home the top prize at the Directors Guild Awards Saturday, beating out Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Tom Hooper (Les Miserables), Ang Lee (Life of Pi) and Steven Spielberg (Lincoln).

Coupled with Argo winning Best Ensemble at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last weekend, it's now considered the front-runner to win Best Picture at the Oscars on Feb. 24.

Awards Season: Red carpet hits and misses

Other winners at Saturday's DGA Awards included Jay Roach, for directing HBO's Game Change, and Glenn Weiss for helming last year's Tony Awards. The award for TV Dramatic Series went to Breaking Bad's Rian Johnson for the episode "Fifty-One," and Lena Dunham won the award for TV Comedy, for the pilot episode of Girls.
