No Playdates for The Bachelor
Jason Mesnick, The Bachelor
Jason Mesnick got to know a lot of women during his stint as The Bachelor — but his young son didn't.
Mesnick, the first single dad to star in ABC's hit show, made sure his 3-year-old, Ty, never got to know most of the contestants, who included several single moms. He also didn't plan playdates with their kids, he told TVGuide.com in an interview just hours before the show's premiere. (It airs Monday at 8 pm/ET.)
"There's no way that I thought it was an appropriate place for Ty to be getting to know a lot of different girls in a group or something like that. And I'll be the first person to say TV's not the exact right place for a kid to be all the time," said Mesnick.
But the 32-year-old, who met his fiancée on the show, made sure she did meet Ty.
"I'm here to find someone to spend the rest of my life with, and I cannot truly fall in love with somebody unless I see them with my son and unless I see my son with them, and how they interact with each other," he said.
Mesnick, of Kirkland, Wash., memorably introduced Ty to DeAnna Pappas when he was one of the men vying for her affection on The Bachelorette. She stopped Mesnick as he got down on one knee to propose, instead choosing snowboarder Jesse Csincsak.
Pappas and Csincsak soon broke up.
