NBC's upcoming Sound of Music remake is adding some big names — and big voices! — to the mix.
Private Practice vet Audra McDonald, Go On alum Laura Benanti and former Smash star Christian Borle have joined the production, NBC announced Monday.
Fall TV 2013: Familiar faces in new places
McDonald, a five-time Tony winner, will play Mother Abbess, Maria's convent confidante before she leaves to work for the von Trapp family. Tony winner Benanti will portray Baroness Elsa Schraeder, the woman engaged to Captain Von Trapp (True Blood's Stephen Moyer). Tony winner Borle steps into the shoes of the Captain's friend, music producer Max Detweiler.
Carrie Underwood will play Maria in the three-hour production, executive-produced by Smash's Neil Meron and Craig Zadan.
