The Artist and Curb Your Enthusiasm Win Top Prizes at Directors Guild Awards

The Artist

Awards season front-runner The Artist came one step closer to Oscar gold by winning best director for a feature film at the Directors Guild Awards.

"Best director, I don't really know what that is. Every one of us is so different," winner Michel Hazanavicius said in his acceptance speech Saturday. "So to try to say which one is the best is very difficult. But I really appreciate this and thank you very much."

Hugo, The Artist lead Oscar nominations

Held in Los Angeles and hosted by Kelsey Grammer, the DGAs also named The Killing pilot as best drama series, and Curb Your Enthusiasm's "Palestinian Chicken" episode as best comedy series.

The Kennedys won best direction for TV movie and miniseries, and General Hospital was recognized as the best daytime serial.

Best musical/variety series went to the 65th annual Tony Awards, while The Biggest Loser took home the honor of best reality series.

James Marsh won best feature documentary for Project Nim.
