Arnold Schwarzenegger Nabs First Post-Scandal Role

Arnold Schwarzenegger

He's back!

Less than two months after putting his acting career on hold in the wake of his cheating scandal, Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on to the Western The Last Stand, Deadline reports.

Schwarzenegger will play a border sheriff fighting a Mexican drug cartel — a role that Liam Neeson was attached to play at one point. The film, which will mark the English-language debut of Korean director Jee-woon Kim, will begin production in September for a 2012 release.

Arnold Schwarzenegger puts acting career on hold

Schwarzenegger dropped all his projects in May after separating from wife Maria Shriver and admitting that he had fathered a child with his longtime housekeeper. Those projects included the film Cry Macho and another Terminator movie. Both will take a back seat to The Last Stand, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Shriver filed for divorce from Schwarzenegger two weeks ago.
