Ariel Winter's mother request for custody of the Modern Family star was denied Wednesday,People reports.
Winter has been in the care of her sister Shanelle Gray since October after the actress alleged that her mother, Chrisoula Workman, physically and emotionally abused her. Workman claims she never mistreated her daughter and the court documents were in reaction to her disapproval of Winter's boyfriend Cameron Palatas.

Senior Court Judge Michael Levenas said that he has seen no evidence that Workman has fixed her relationship with Winter, 15, who will remain in Gray's custody until Oct. 16. A trial to decide whether Gray's custody will remain permanent is scheduled for Sept. 16.
Workman maintains that she is innocent of all charges and simply wants her daughter back. "I'm the one being abused here," she told The Associated Press. "I'm doing this for all stage mothers. This could happen to any of them."
