Aretha Franklin is expected to be released from the hospital this weekend, a week after undergoing surgery for an undisclosed ailment, according to her cousin.

The Queen of Soul is "doing better than expected" in recovery, Brenda Corbett told the Detroit Free Press. She did not reveal what is ailing Franklin, though multiple Detroit outlets have reported via sources that the singer has cancer.
Last month, Franklin, 68, canceled all of her performances through May. Corbett said Franklin plans to return to the stage in late spring or early summer.

"[She] has a long life in front of her and will be back in concert," she said.
Calls to Franklin's rep were not immediately returned.
