VIDEO: Alan Thicke Has Advice for Fathers — and Mother
Alan Thicke is all about dispensing words of wisdom these days.
The Growing Pains alum will again add a little sparkle to Monday's episode of How I Met Your Mother, returning to play "the role I was born to play" — himself, the actor tells TVGuide.com. Thicke, of course, previously appeared in the third season, making a cameo as Robin Sparkles' pop in her "Sandcastles in the Sand" music video.

So what brings him back? Lily calls on Robin's Canadian pal for help when Barney and Robin hit a rough patch in their relationship.
Off-screen, Thicke has written How to Raise Kids Who Won't Hate You, offering some humorous guidance on parenting. A proud father of three and grandfather — with another grandbaby on the way by son Robin Thicke — the 62-year-old explains how the book serves to "memorialize" his children's upbringing.
