Adam Lambert Slams Les Miserables: "Why Not Cast Actors Who Could Actually Sound Good?"

Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert dreamed a dream ... and it involved different actors and actresses singing in the film version of Les Miserables.

The former American Idol contestant voiced his concerns on Twitter after seeing the movie, which stars Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and others.

"Les Mis: Visually impressive w great Emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers," Lambert wrote.

Director Tom Hooper elected to have the actors sing live as they were filming scenes, rather than lip syncing to a pre-recorded studio track, a decision Lambert took issue with. He called the vocal efforts "distracting."

What were the best performances of 2012?

"The industry will say 'these actors were so brave to attempt singing this score live' but why not cast actors who could actually sound good?" he pondered. "Sorry for being so harsh but it's so True!"

After getting some backlash from his followers, Lambert backpedaled slightly and clarified his stance. Specifically, he praised Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen for their performances. Hathaway, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as Fantine, was "breathtaking," according to Lambert.

"Look-I grew up w this musical and so my expectations are quite high," he wrote. "Didn't mean to b negative."
