Pretty Little Liars
ABC Family announced an ambitious summer slate Monday that includes a series about being switched at birth, Raven-Symoné's headlining comedy and the return of Pretty Little Liars.
Leading off on Monday, June 6 at 9/8c is Switched at Birth. The one-hour drama follows two teens, Daphne and Bay, from different backgrounds who learn they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. The families eventually meet and must learn how to live together. Newcomer Katie Leclerc plays Daphne and Vanessa Marano (Gilmore Girls) is Bay. Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), Constance Marie (George Lopez), D.W. Moffett (Friday Night Lights) and High School Musical's Lucas Grabeel co-star.
ABC Family orders new Raven-Symoné series
Another new series, The Nine Lives of Chloe King, will debut Tuesday, June 14 at 9/8c. The scripted drama focuses on a girl who begins developing heightened abilities on her birthday and realizes she's being pursued by a mysterious person. Chloe (The Gates' Skyler Samuels) soon discovers she's part of an ancient race which has been hunted by human assassins, and she may be their only hope for survival.
Pretty Little Liars, the adaptation of Sara Shepard's novel series, will begin its second season on Tuesday, June 14, at 8/7c. The series, which follows four friends trying to uncover the mysterious death of their friend, is the network's No. 1 series of all time among the 18-34 and 12-34 demos.
Raven-Symoné's half-hour comedy The Great State of Georgia will debut Wednesday, June 29, at 8:30/7:30c. Symoné plays Georgia, an aspiring actress with a big personality trying to make headway in New York with her science-geek best friend. Roswell's Majandra Delfino will co-star. The show is executive-produced by Kirk J. Rudell (Will & Grace) and best-selling author Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed, In Her Shoes).
ABC Family gets into The Lying Game
Melissa and Joey returns Wednesday, June 29 at 8/7c. The comedy pairs '90s sitcom stars Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence who come to work together when Mel must take in her kids and hires Joey as her "manny."
Another Shepard novel adaptation, The Lying Game, debuts Monday, Aug. 15 at 9/8c is called. The story revolves around Emma (Alexandra Chando), a foster child who learns she has an identical twin sister named Sutton, who was adopted by a wealthy family. The sisters trade places while Sutton pursues a lead on the identity of their birth mother.
The new lineup marks the first time in ABC Family's history that the cable outlet will have three nights of original programming.
