ABC Family is developing a TV movie about the lesbian teenager who made national news after her high school banned her from the prom, network reps say.
Constance McMillen, an 18-year-old student from Mississippi, challenged the local school board for its rules that prevented her from bringing her girlfriend. The school ultimately canceled the April 2 prom after McMillen's request.

The American Civil Liberties Union successfully sued the school on McMillen's behalf, and she was awarded a $35,000 settlement. In addition, Ellen DeGeneres donated $30,000 toward McMillen's college fund.
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are attached to the TV movie, which is in early stages of development, ABC Family reps say.
The announcement comes amidst a spate of suicides by teens who had reportedly suffered anti-gay harassment and abuse, including California's Seth Walsh and Texas' Asher Brown, both 13, Indiana's Billy Lucas, 15, and Tyler Clementi, an 18-year-old Rutgers University student. Clementi jumped off the George Washington Bridge connecting New York and New Jersey three days after he was secretly filmed in a sexual encounter with another man, which was then broadcast online
