ABC Developing Skating Version of Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars is heading for the rink.

ABC and BBC Worldwide Productions are discussing the creation of a figure skating version of Dancing, a network rep told TVGuide.com

While development is still in the early stages, both companies hope to import a BBC format in which celebrities train to perform ice-skating routines. BBC aired a skating version of Strictly Come Dancing — the British Dancing equivalent — as a Christmas special in 2004.

According to The Wrap, which originally reported the story, ABC and BBC Worldwide will take their time with development as it is more difficult to cast celebrities willing to ice-skate than to find ones who would dance.

Plus, it's been done before.

Lest we forget, Fox aired one season of Skating with Celebrities in 2006, in which six celebrities, including Dave Coulier, Debbie Gibson and eventual champ Kristy Swanson, were paired with six professional skaters to strut their stuff on the ice.
