NYPD Investigating 911 Calls Coming from Katie Couric's Late Husband's Number

New York police are investigating a series of 911 calls that have been mysteriously placed from a phone number belonging to Katie Couric's late husband, Jay Monahan, the New York Daily News reports.

The calls have been placed at least 10 times since last month, almost always around 2 a.m. and often when Couric is out of town, according to the report. Each time, a patrol car is automatically dispatched to Couric's home on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Couric believes the calls are part of the "SWAT" pranking trend that has also sent authorities to the homes of such celebrities as Chris Brown, Ashton Kutcher and Kim Kardashian.

The number is a land line that is used as the home phone in the house, a friend of Couric's told the Daily News. Couric never bothered to change the name on the line after her husband died of colon cancer in 1998.

Police told the Daily News they're looking into whether someone is using a device to hack into the line and make the emergency calls.

"The matter is under investigation. We're trying to determine if it's a malfunction or not," a police source told the paper.
