30 Rock, Mad Men Take Top Prizes at Producers' Awards
Producers Guild Awards, Mat Weiner, Scott Hornbacher
The Screen Actors Guild wasn't the only union honoring 30 Rock and Mad Men over the weekend. The shows, whose casts won best ensemble in their respective genres at the SAG Awards, also won their categories at the Producers Guild of America.
The win was 30 Rock's second in a row, while Mad Men prevailed for the first time. Matching 30 Rock with a repeat win was The Colbert Report, lauded as the best in the entertainment/competition category. Another awards favorite, HBO's John Adams, won in the long-form category.
Slumdog Millionaire's best picture win at the PGAs added to its Oscar momentum, because the producers' prize has matched Oscar's best picture for 12 of the past 19 years.
Other winners included Wall-E for animated feature, Man on Wire for documentary and 60 Minutes for nonfiction television.
Michael Douglas, producer Brian Grazer, director Ron Howard and Sopranos' mastermind David Chase were honored with career achievement awards.
