Academy Award statue

The 84th Academy Awards will be held Sunday, Feb. 26, Academy President Tom Sherak announced Tuesday.

The announcement ends speculation that the show might move to an earlier date to maintain suspense in categories that sometimes seem like done deals by the time the Oscars roll around after a lengthy awards season. The Oscars have maintained a late February date (or early March date in Olympic years) since 2004.

Nominations will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8:30 a.m. ET / 5:30 a.m. PT.

Look back at this year's Oscars

The ceremony will once again take place at the Kodak Theatre and will be televised by ABC, which re-upped to carry the Oscars through 2020 earlier this year.

Will you watch next year? Who should host and erase memory of James Franco if not Anne Hathaway from our minds?
