The View Taps Reality Mom Kate Gosselin as Co-Host

Kate Gosselin

When Elisabeth Hasselbeck said Kate Gosselin should "get the camera off the kids" and "get a job," she didn't mean her job.

But desperate times call for desperate hosts, and The View says Gosselin will serve as a fill-in host for Hasselbeck Sept. 14 and 15. (And you thought the show jumped the shark when it announced LaToya Jackson would guest-host.)

News: New and Improved View Coming Sept. 8

The View appears to be scrounging for a ratings similar to those of Rosie O'Donnell days. Gosselin's Jon & Kate Plus 8 TLC series is also struggling with a ratings drop.

Hasselbeck said Gosselin should get a job after she and her husband announced they were filing for divorce in June.

Check out the heated discussion about the reality show between the ladies of The View:

The announcement comes after Gosselin's uncomfortable appearance on Larry King Live Tuesday night, where the mother of eight talked about her life post-divorce.

"My main concern is my kids," Gosselin told King. "I want the kids to look back on all that they're going to see of me and know that I did my best."

While ex-husband Jon has been spotted with several women lately, Gosselin said dating isn't on her mind.

"No. Too busy. Sorry," Gosselin explained. "I'm lonely, but I'm — I'm very busy and, actually, I'm alright."
