Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday 10.16.08
Chris Parnell is back, this time, as debate moderator Bob Schieffer. Fred Armisen plays Barack Obama and Darrell Hammond plays John McCain in what I'm sure was called, "The Joe the Plumber sketch" in rehearsals.
Let's just discuss the best moments of the debate sketch:
- McCain: "Joe the plumber is a straight shooter and one of the finest people I've ever known. Let me tell you something else, he's got a lot of good ideas about how to fix this economy, and as president I'll be relying on his advice and expertise.
- McCain smiling creepily and blinking profusely.
- McCain: "Joe the plumber lives in a cigar box under my bed with our friend Simon ...He's my best friend ...Simon is invisible."
- McCain makes Obama apologize to his invisible friend.
And now some choice tidbits from Weekend Update:
- "Barack Obama has begun placing campaign ads inside video games; not to be outdone, John McCain is placing his ads inside MRI machines."
- Kristen Wiig plays a crazy lady from one of the McCain rallies. She plays crazy really well. She mispronounces all her buzz words, and god help me I laugh at it.
- We liked it! Amy: "I liked it how in two debates McCain compared Obama to Herbert Hoover. Awww, snap! Way to connect to the youth of America with a Hoover reference. Seth: John McCain, I like how you said you wished there had been more town hall debates, even though you were not good at your town hall debate. You kept lurching at people and walking around like you should have been wearing a hospital gown.
- Darrell Hammond playing Jesse Jackson. Once again, it was a dead-on impersonation.
Are you excited for Josh Brolin to host this weekend? Are you expecting a Sarah Palin cameo? Be sure to come back Saturday night to read our in-depth recap!
