Gossip Girl Episode Recap: "The Lost Boy"

This week on Gossip Girl, several couples faced trust issues as Vanessa grew more suspicious of Scott, Serena had doubts about Carter, and Chuck and Blair engaged in a bidding war at an auction.

Scott Tells the Truth...and Lies
Scott's lies about his college classes were catching up with him, so finally Vanessa did some digging and found out that Scott Adler was not a student at NYU. When she confronted him with this info, he told her it was complicated...and then in his next breath he just blurted out the truth to her: that he's Lily and Rufus' son. However, his parents told him that his biological parents wanted nothing to do with him, and Vanessa clued him in to the fact that his parents told Lily and Rufus he was dead. He was pretty shocked by this, so he went off to call home.

Meanwhile, Georgina and Dan did some investigative work of their own and uncovered Scott's real last name. This allowed Dan to identify Scott as the fan who once wrote him a letter, and suddenly D and G were worried that Scott was some dangerous, crazy stalker. Scott was about to put an end to all the lies and speculation and tell everyone the truth the night of the Sotheby's auction — until his mother showed up. She tearfully apologized to him for lying to Rufus and Lily and told him she supported him. She mentioned losing his brother (Andrew), and then Scott seemed to fear he was betraying her, so he didn't go through with it. He walked up to Rufus and lied, telling him he was Andrew's brother and that he just wanted to meet Andrew's biological family. Nice — drag out the drama, Scott. Although I suppose the truth will have a bigger impact if Rufus and Lily hear it together one day. But that's not going to happen anytime soon, because Scott went back to Boston, and he asked Vanessa to keep this really big secret (that's a lot to ask of her, considering she's so close to Dan and Rufus). Although...Georgina eavesdropped on Scott's good-bye to Vanessa, and then G made plans to take the next train up to Boston.

Georgina and Dan — No St
rings
Blair, Serena and Vanessa all found out about Dan hooking up with Georgina. Blair was appalled, and Serena was surprisingly OK with it, though she did warn Dan that Georgie can get a bit clingy. So Dan made sure Georgina knew this was just a casual thing, and she said she was cool with that. After he found out she played a dirty trick on Blair, he suggested they take a break. And on the phone, she acted like their relationship was no big deal — but behind her, her Dan-and-Georgina screensaver told a different tale.

Chuck and Blair's Bidding War

Chuck had another important business meeting this week, and he was so focused on preparing for it, he had no time to have sex with Blair. This understandably upset Blair, because Chuck's the only good thing she's got going in her life right now. But things started to look up for her when she got an invite to a secret society at school. However, to get in, Blair had to bring them a specific photograph that was up for bid at the Sotheby's auction. The very same photograph that an assistant suggested Chuck purchase in order to impress the man with whom he was having a meeting.

Coincidence? Of course not. Turns out Georgina was behind the whole thing — she sent Blair the fake invite and she knew the assistant. However, before this deception was uncovered, neither Blair nor Chuck was willing to back down in the fight over this photograph. Because as Serena put it, they're "two of the most self-centered people" she knows. Chuck called a fake truce, Blair stole his shoes, and then they argued by tossing compliments at one another in the middle of the actual bidding war. This was rather sweet, and they built each other's confidence up. In the end, they were so distracted that Serena outbid them both. She gave the photo to Blair, who in turn gave it to Chuck "because I love you...and I believe in you." Chuck probably wasn't often told things like that growing up, so it was good for him to hear it. Ultimately, Chuck took that faith Blair has in him and made a risky gamble — instead of finding a partner for a club, he made plans to buy an entire hotel on his own, selling all of his Bass Industries shares to do it.

Serena's Poker Face

Speaking of gambling, Carter kept telling Serena that she didn't have a good poker face every time she caught him in a sticky situation in which he claimed innocence (a beautiful blonde on the street accused Carter of sleeping with her and lying to her; Carter ran into problems with his hotel bill; etc.). Serena told Carter she believed him in each case, but her face expressed mistrust. A protective Blair and a vengeful Chuck were behind this scam, and Serena eventually apologized to Carter.

But, it turns out Carter is hiding something. It seems that he knows Bree Buckley. She's returning home to face her family firing squad, and "considering what you did to us, being able to find you is going to go a long way in getting me back in."

So, what do you think Carter did to Bree's family exactly? And how is Georgina going to get Scott to return to New York?
