Saturday Night Live Episode Recap: "Weekend Update Thursday Oct. 23, 2008"

Those buggers at SNL are quite the secret-keepers! There was a major surprise guest star on Thursday, and I'll just say, it was a former SNL star, who was one of several people to play George W. Bush. And, in another fantastic surprise, we got a little Sarah Palin love from Tina Fey on a Thursday! Let's just skip the formalities and get right to the best lines of the evening.

Address from President George W. Bush
OMG, holy #(@*#, Will Ferrell has returned to play W. – he always was my favorite impressionist in the Dubs category (no diss to the others who played our 43rd prez, but Will is the bomb). Some of W.'s best lines:

• Frankly every time I speak during the day, the stock market goes in the crapper. So, sorry Asian markets, you're taking the hit on this one.
• I come to you in the midst of a very important election: between the hot lady and the Tiger Woods guy
•Yes, I did have three xanax and a silver bullet before I came here – I'm outta here in a few months so screw it (insert his weasel laugh).
• I've just been told by my trusted aid Jeff that the country is actually in a horrible downward spiral, and that my approval numbers are lower than ever. That one's on me — four months ago I declared the Oval Office a bummer-free zone.

Yay! Tina Fey as Palin just entered in a sharp and expensive looking suit. Man, her accent and mannerisms just get better every week. I have to wonder if it slips out in her other work.

More great lines:
Sarah: … unfortunately, ever since Senator McCain upon hearing you wanted to give him a super-public endorsement, cannot be found.
Bush: We'll smoke him out. George W. Bush always finds his man save for one huge exception
Sarah: I like to think I'm one part practice folksy, one part sassy and a little dash of high school bitchy (insert wink and smile)

Jason Sudeikis in full race suit as Todd Palin enters with a reluctant John McCain played by Darrell Hammond. The race suit and the goatee kill me! And Tina has the lip-licking, the apple-cheeked smile, the pursed lips all down perfectly. Emmy voters take note!

Bush grabs McCain's hand and endorses him by repeating over and over again that a vote for McCain is a vote for Bush. This is so heavy handed but hysterical because it is so over the top.

The last image is the three posing for a photo, and "Sarah" totally poses like a naughty librarian in a pin-up magazine. Hilarious.

Weekend Update
Seth: In an interview this weekend, Sarah Palin says that "when the media criticizes her children, the mama grizzly in me comes out and make me want to rear up on my hind legs." Which is exactly what a mama grizzly did to Sarah Palin before she shot it from a helicopter.

Oscar Rogers

Mr. Rogers (not that one) is back, played by Keenan Thompson. He's pretty riled about the economy again and does his "fix it" bit, which still makes me chuckle, even though it's so simple.

Andy Samberg's Jam the Vote
Basically, it's sorta funny because Andy tries to convince people to vote, eating a spicy hot dog while trying to make a point, and then spending the rest of the bit barfing it up on unregistered voters. Barf jokes are funny… (Back to the news)

Amy:
Two British women who were life long friends were surprised to discover that they were actually sisters… and spent every day since trying really hard to forget about
"that one time in college."

Well, that's the best in my opinion, what did you think? What was left out?

See you on Saturday night!
