Jewel

Dancing's new season is just a few weeks away — the sequins and sambas return March 9 (8 pm/ET, ABC) — but Jewel is sidelined already.

The singer, who's hitting the parquet along with her husband, rodeo star Ty Murray, wrote on her blog Wednesday that knee trouble is keeping her from rehearsals for several days.

"My knees have been hurting so badly that I finally broke down and talked to Ty's knee doctor yesterday," she wrote. "He said I have tendonitis in my knees and that I have to start a course of medicine to try and bring the swelling down."

Jewel lamented that she was "kinda bummed" over the injury. "It was just so fun to dance 8 hours a day — especially considering I only had 3 weeks to cram not only for my first dance — cha cha, but to learn the fundamentals of about 6 other dances that I will have to know. But now I'm just worried I won't even be able to dance!"

The Dancing neophyte might not have to hang up her dance shoes just yet. "I have had a minor setback in my training for Dancing with the Stars, but I am dedicated to getting better and showing the judges and America that I can cha cha with the best of them," she said in a statement to E!.

Based on her blog entry, it sounds as if Jewel and her pro partner, Dmitry Chaplin, are already taking a competitive approach to their preparations. "[M]y Russian partner and I have the same work ethic and our motto has been "ATTACK!!", she wrote. Chaplin, a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance, is set to make his Dancing debut when the show sashays back to TV this March.

What do you think? Should Jewel dance through the pain — or let another star take her place?
