Tom DeLay has withdrawn from Dancing with the Stars due to stress fractures in both of his feet.

"I won't [continue]," he announced on Tuesday's show after he and partner Cheryl Burke were declared safe from elimination. "You can't practice and if you can't practice, you make a fool out of yourself here and I don't want to do that to Cheryl."

The former House Majority leader, who told TVGuide.com last month he will dance until his feet break, was advised by producers and doctors Monday not to dance, but he decided to hit the floor to perform his samba anyway.

"The feet were saying, 'What were you doing last night while we were sleeping?'" he said Tuesday.

DeLay earned kudos for his efforts, but only 15 points, the second lowest score of the night.

Had DeLay continued, he would have tacked the Texas Two Step next week. Host Tom Bergeron extended an invite to the 62-year-old to return to perform the Texas Two Step if he's healed by the November finale.

Debi Mazar was eliminated at the end of the show, leaving only 11 couples left in the competition.
