Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 — DVD Review
Battlestar Galactica 4.5
Though many Battlestar Galactica fans were divided on the final season of the critically acclaimed sci-fi series, there's no debating the awesomeness of this set.
Although we're no fan of cleaving seasons into two separate releases, this final piece of the puzzle and its more than 13 hours of bonus content will wow any fan. The final nine episodes tackle what really happened to Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff), the fate of Gaius Baltar (James Callis), whether the crew will ever make it to Earth, and, oh yeah, the identity of the fifth Cylon.
If you have no clue as to what any of that means, the set includes an awesome eight-minute recap of the series' first three-and-a-half seasons.
Other extras include a Battlestarload of commentaries as well as extended, unaired versions of the episodes "A Disquiet Follows My Soul," "Islanded in the Stream," and the finale, "Daybreak." There are also deleted scenes, interviews with the cast and creative teams, featurettes on the visual style of the show and the music selection, and a first look at the upcoming TV-movie The Plan, which promises to answer more of the series' unresolved questions.
The video quality is just average (it's also available on Blu-ray, which offers a notable improvement), but all the goodies really override that complaint. Plus, we applaud the studio for releasing this final collection for fans who have been buying each season along the way. However, if you want to really nerd out, you should definitely look into getting the complete series on Blu-ray. (Our review of that set is coming soon.)
No matter which side of the fence you stand on with regard to Galactica's final season, there's no denying the show's impact and place in TV history. Put this one on your shelf and enjoy it for years to come.
