Cheers: Comics on SVU — Isn't that Special?

Robin Williams on Law & Order: SVU

Cheers to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for allowing comedians to explore their dead-serious sides.

The long-running NBC drama, which costars standup Richard Belzer as ex-homicide cop John Munch and featured Robin Williams in an Emmy-nominated guest role as a mad bomber last season, added two more cutups to its roster. Letterman sidekick Chris Elliott appeared as an astronaut-obsessed superfan and was more convincing than in his stint as a psycho killer on Third Watch a few years back. Even more impressive was the always-great Martin Mull as an AIDS-denying quack busted by Stabler and Benson for causing the death of several HIV-positive kids. Mull was downright chilling — and that's no laughing matter.
