Cheers & Jeers: Love Bites Sucks

Becki Newton as Annie, Krysten Ritter and David Giuntoli

Jeers to Love Bites for giving love a bad name — and wasting lots of big names.

The long-but-not-long-enough-delayed premiere of NBC's rom-com anthology stranded a plethora of TV veterans in a trilogy of sub-Sex and the City plots: Breaking Bad's Krysten Ritter (who's put to much better use in ABC's midseason sitcom Apartment 23) and Ugly Betty's Becki Newton as an alleged virgin and her pregnant, unwitting wingwoman; My Boys' Kyle Howard and Lipstick Jungle's Lindsay Price as an accountant and his vibrator-loving fiancée; and Heroes' Greg Grunberg as a tattoo artist who nearly joins the Mile High Club with his celebrity crush, once (and future?) SVU-er Jennifer Love Hewitt.

The list doesn't end there: Familiar faces also included The Office's Craig Robinson, The Daily Show's Larry Wilmore and Californication's Pamela Adlon (who'll be replaced as Grunberg's wife by Entourage's Constance Zimmer starting next week). You've got to wonder what attracted all this talent to such a limp script. Watching the pilot get burned off more than a year after the show was falsely announced as part of NBC's fall schedule, it's hard to imagine anybody ever fell in love at first Bites.
