The Ghost Whisperer Producers: Feeling the Emmy Love

Ghost Whisperer's Melinda, by graphic artist Joselle "Josie" Ho

Hello...hello...hello!

The results are in and it's official: Ghost Whisperer has received two Emmy nominations! Our brilliant composer, Mark Snow, was nominated for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series — the episode submitted for consideration was "Leap of Faith"

"Leap of Faith" was written by P.K. Simonds — and if you've seen it, you'll agree that he did a fabulous, fabulous job and it was directed beautifully directed by Ian. This is Mark's second Ghost Whisperer Emmy nod since we've been on the air. Kudos to all!

Also, Ghost Whisperer was nominated for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, for "Ghost in the Machine." This is the mind-bending episode about ghost avatars, in which Melinda finds herself in a digital world. As a gorgeous avatar, she kicks @**! e shot this completely on green screen and then built out the world digitally afterwards. Check out this cool teaser.

Visual Effect Supervisor Armen Kevorkian and his partner in crime, Art Codron, did a brilliant job on all fronts here — not to mention the billions of hours that they spent working on all this with the dynamic team at EDEN FX. Also, shouts out to producer Juanita Diana Feeney and editor Michael Knue. "Ghost in the Machine" was written by Jeannine Renshaw and directed by Steve Robman. Great creative and technical work, all of you! If you've seen the episode, we think you'll agree that it's an amazing effort and very 21st century by way of filmmaking.

FYI: Ghost Whisperer was first called onto the Emmy carpet in Season 1, with the Opening Title sequence to the show.

We are happy to share with you that our immensely talented Director of Photography, James Chressanthis, recently produced and directed the documentary No Subtitles Necessary: Laszlo & Vilmos, which received the Orpheus Top Audience Choice Award at the 2009 Los Angeles Greek Film Festival. This documentary follows the lives of renowned cinematographers Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Zsigmond from escaping the 1956 Soviet Invasion of Hungary to present day. It was a labor of love for Jim and we are truly proud of your accomplishment! Congratulations!

Ghost Whisperer is being honored at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum. Authentic Ghost Whisperer costumes will be showcased during the Fourth Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition. The exhibition will run July 29 through Sept. 6. Congratulations to Ghost Whisperer costume designer Dorothy Amos and her amazing team. We hope you'll check this out online or drop in when you're in Los Angeles.

The cast can't wait to meet you!

Sunday, July 26, 1-2 pm / Room 6BCF
Ghost Whisperer Fan Panel
You can hear directly from Love, David, Camryn, Jamie, Christoph, P.K. and us, you'll have an opportunity to ask questions, and you'll get an exclusive first look at video clips from the new season. There will be hints and revelations about the game-changing addition of Melinda and Jim's new baby and how it will bring new powers, new challenges and new rules to the show — and open doors to a whole new paranormal dimension. We'll also talk about the "Ghost Whisperer Total Engagement Experience" — that's a windy way of saying that we'll share with you what we're adding to the "playground" that enables you to create your own Ghost Whisperer experience on lots of different platforms including the Internet, music, mobile, interactive DVD special features, publishing, video games and much more. FYI: The moderator for the panel is the very dynamic Jevon Phillips of the Los Angeles Times.

There's also a surprise announcement being made at Comic-Con about a new Ghost Whisperer brand extension, which will enable you to have your own experience in the Ghost Whisperer world. Stay tuned.

In preparation for Comic-Con, we've been working on a "sneak peek" video that will premiere exclusively at the fan panel. One thing we can share with you up front: Jamie Kennedy's golf-cart driving skills? Ahhh... run for your life! Also, note the cool Comic-Con artwork on this blog (see the full image here) by the talented graphic artist Joselle "Josie" Ho. (She just tied the knot, BTW. You go girl!) You may recognize Josie's style — she's done some of the IDW comic book covers and much of the artwork for the DVD sets of Season 3 and Season 4. You can also pre-purchase your Season 4 Ghost Whisperer DVD set online. The set will hit stores everywhere on Sept. 22, 2009.

We are happy to have Emmy-winning director Eric Laneuville back in the saddle again, directing Episode 502. Eric has directed several great shows, including L.A. Law, NYPD Blue and Lost. During the "haunting hours" tonight, he's taking on the monumental task of directing a complicated action sequence that involves cars and... well, you'll see soon. Ghost Whisperer premieres with all-new episodes on Sept. 25 at 8 pm, on CBS.

Love is busy in the editing room with Neil Mandelberg working on the film that she and the crew shot for the premiere episode. Of course, she's also working in front of the camera, playing Melinda Gordon. Whew!

It's great to have David Conrad, Camryn Manheim, Jamie Kennedy and Christoph Sander back on set. Their energy and creative flow is fabulous. Also, we're on the watch for real-life ghost action — as you know, our sets are haunted. We'll be sure to share our first sighting with you. Last year, we had the "fire-starter" ghost that P.K. and the writers birthed in the writing room; we suspect it was unleashed before we actually started rolling film on the premier. Remember the Universal fire and our Grandview Town Square? Who knows, right?

For more from the writers room, check out P.K. Simonds' blog. Good stuff going on there.

Jamie Kennedy's comedy tour continues. Click here for more details.

In this week's episode, "Ball and Chain," Melinda tries to solve the mystery of a ghost who claims not to understand why her husband is living with a new wife. The answer lies in a horrifying secret, and when Melinda figures out what it is, she's forced to put her own life in jeopardy to protect an innocent victim. Meanwhile, Sam tries to determine whom he bought an engagement ring for.

"Ball and Chain" was written by Jeannine Renshaw and co-producer Christina M. Kim, and directed by Eric Laneuville.

This episode guest stars Daytime Emmy winner Rena Sofer (General Hospital), George Newbern (Grey's Anatomy) and Bree Turner (Quarterlife).

In addition to featuring Mark Snow's composed music, this episode features Greg Laswell's "Not Out" (Vanguard Records), Deathray's "Living For Today" (Polygram Records), One Republic's "Say (All I Need)" (Mosley Music Group/Interscope) and the U.K. chart-topping band The Script (Sony BMG).

Thanks for checking in with us. We'll be right here next week. And if you're coming to Comic-Con, please stop by and say hello, hello, hello!
