Ghost Whisperer Producers Share Tales From Comic-Con
Hello,
Thanks so much for the overwhelming responses to our blog last week! You gave us so much amazing feedback about the show and posted additional questions that we will try to answer moving forward. But, first — as promised — we want to share with you what happened at Comic-Con.
The Ghost Whisperer cast and executive producers arrived at Comic-Con to an overwhelming — truly overwhelming — crowd of excited fans at the IDW booth. The convention floor was so jammed with people that it was hard to navigate the floor. But the enthusiasm of everyone was contagious. Cheering, flashing cameras and, a lot of love! Jennifer Love Hewitt, Camryn Manheim, Jamie Kennedy and Christoph Sanders signed autographs, talking to each fan as they came down the sign-line. FYI: David Conrad was unfortunately unable to attend on Sunday — he really wanted to be there and felt bad that he had a last minute schedule conflict, which prevented him from attending. As many of you know, David was at Comic-Con last year and had a huge presence at our fan panel. He sends his very best to all of you from the set today! We found it interesting to talk with so many of you on Sunday — and we're thrilled to learn how you've hooked into many of the details of Ghost Whisperer. There were lots of believers and non-believers as well — the diverse points of view make it all so interesting, don't you think?
After the autograph session, we were all taken through the bowels of the convention center — it's a creepy underworld in there. Shadowy, spooky and enormous. And exactly the kind of place where ghosts lurk. If there are 130,000 pumped up fans in the building, it makes sense that a ghost or two would drill into all this for a surge of energy, right?
Next, we did what they call a "media line," which is where they have camera crews like TV Guide Network and Entertainment Tonight lined up to interview everyone. You walk the line, and answer questions that they fire at you — very intense, and lots of fun. Some of these interviews have appeared on-line and in the newspapers already.
Next came the MOST INPORTANT EVENT OF THE DAY — THE GHOST WHISPERER FAN PANEL. Los Angeles Times reporter Jovan Phillips acted as moderator. He introduced about what's happened so far and what's coming up this season. And, we want to give a special shout out to reporter Drusilla Moorhouse who tweeted about our fan panel! The room must was packed when we took the stage Ghost Whisperer fans and you could feel their energy as they entered the room! Great stuff!
When the video ended, the lights came up we all took the stage and started to dish! First question out of the box: What can you tell us about Melinda's child and his powers.
Love chimed right away with how this is something that she's been wanting to happen for Melinda — "It's fun for Melinda to be a mom because she gets to be a little feisty."
Camryn added that she was looking forward to watching Love's character respond with a maternal instinct now that she had a child to protect. We've had the pleasure of watching Love interact with children over the past four years — she got an amazing connection to them so we know she'll do a wonderful job playing a mom. And in real life, when the time comes, we have no doubt she'll be fabulous.
The biggest news that day was the confirmation that we'll be advancing five years into the future this season. We won't start out that way, but will quickly make the jump. How, you ask? Stay tuned. Why, you ask? Because we can tell more interesting stories if the child is at an age where he can communicate and has an awareness of his gifts — even if he doesn't quite understand them. Will his gifts put his safety at jeopardy? You bet!
Other things talked about in regards to the five year time jump — Jim's place in the medical world progresses; Delia is back into real estate yet still involved with Melinda and the SAME AS IT NEVER WAS shop. Also, Ned hits college — and both son and mom are dating! "Yes, Christoph and I will be dating, but not each other," laughed Camryn. Christoph added he has already filmed one steamy scene for Season 5 and he 's looking forward to more. FYI: Ned will be studying the Occult this season and his professor will be none other than the infamous Eli (Jamie Kennedy).
And something really juicy — P.K. talked about how some of the storytelling will deal with what happens to spirits when they cross over. Aren't you curious about where spirits go after they've completed their unfinished biz? To prep for this new journey, click here to check out the webisode series, The Other Side. Then tune in to the premier of Ghost Whisperer on Sept. 25 at 8/7 CT on CBS.
On the fan panel, Camryn talked about her character, Delia, being a non-believer starting out in Season 2 and how Delia's slowly starting to trust the ghost world. She also talked about herself, personally, and how she shares space with Delia in that regard. In addition to talking about what's coming up this season, Love also talked about how she feels about being a mom in the show, Jamie talking about how he feels about Love, and Camryn and Jamie going at it about how they each prepare for a scene. And Christoph being adorable. BTW: Did you know that Christoph, in addition to being a surfer dude (yeah, he surfed the day before Comic-Con and cracked his new board!?), plays the ukulele? He's going to get us some pics that we can share with you!
During the fan panel, fans lined up at the mic and asked questions. We loved hearing from the MEN about how they 'cried like a baby' during some of the episodes this past season. Kim and Camryn and Love thought it was amazing how these sensitive men 'shared'. You guys ROCK!
HERE ARE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS YOU ASKED DURING THE FAN PANEL:
Have you ever had a real life, supernatural experience?
CHRISTOPH: No, but I think it's only a matter of time.
CAMRYN: No, but I believe if I did, I'm the type of person who would try to come up with some logical explanation that could explain it away."
JAMIE: NO, but I think I would have a hard time believing something happened to me. However, I seriously think about taking out the closet doors in his house because they sometimes freak him out. Its dark inside the closets...
LOVE: Yes...I've experienced lots of occurrences. Once on set, when Jay Mohr was talking about how he didn't believe in ghosts, a light exploded above his head — and it wasn 't even plugged in. And a number of times we've gotten the film back and there is a presence in the film. It's amazing."
Will Love ever sing on the show?
It's a possibility. We know she has a loyal following of music fans waiting for her to drop another album! We have used some of her songs in the show. Stay tuned for more.
Will there ever be a cross over episode between Ghost Whisperer and Medium?
First of all, we're all truly thrilled to welcome Medium to Friday night. And we've talked about a cross over — let 's see how this all plays out. It 's a great show and we think in this case one plus one makes a thousand on Friday nights with two shows about the spirit world — especially because they are so very different.
Now, about tonight's episode, "Slow Burn" (413), Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) tries to help a "ghost mom" who for some reason is hiding evidence that points to the possible perpetrator of her own murder. Meanwhile, Melinda tries to balance her ghost whispering with a brand new dating life — dating a guy, Sam, who can't know she sees ghosts.
"Slow Burn" was written by our talented executive producer Jeannine Renshaw and was directed by Steve Robman.

This episode is chock full of music. It features Billboard Chart Topping Artist Katy Perry's hit song "Hot 'N Cold" (Capitol Music Group.) Additional songs featured in this episode include James Morrison "You Make It Real" (Polydor Records), The Script "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" (Sony BMG) Kyler England "Simple Machine" (Gypsy Rock Records) and indie acts Minnutes "Destiny" and Bryan Weirmier "You Are The Reason."
