The Ghost Whisperer Producers: "Cursed"
Hey Fans:
In tonight's brand new episode, "Cursed," a little girl uncovers a strange dollhouse hidden in her attic, which seems to be haunted. As Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) tries to figure out what kind of ghosts haunt a dollhouse, she's drawn into a tense drama between family members both living and dead. Meanwhile, the surprising news of Melinda's pregnancy is overshadowed by the disappearance of the wedding rings she carefully saved since Jim's death. For a clue as to where the wedding rings are, check out the web series The Other Side III. http://cbs.com/ghost
The dollhouse in this episode was built by our art department (lots of sweat went into this baby), and was modeled after a real house, which was built in 1878 in Altadena, California by Frederick Roehrig for Andrew McNally of Rand McNally (the preeminent American publisher of maps, atlases, and globes.) A little history: there used to be railroad tracks leading up to the house on which Andrew McNally's private rail car sat. When he needed to travel to Chicago the train would pull up to the house in Altadena, hook up his car and take him East. The tracks and the railroad car are long gone, but amazingly the house still stands, well preserved. FYI: Under the dome of the house sits a 'Moroccan Room,' which was a showpiece at the Chicago's World's Fair in 1893.
"Cursed" was written by co-executive producer Laurie McCarthy and was directed by Kim. Laurie did an extraordinary job of writing a haunting and magical script. Kim says that shooting the dollhouse was quite a challenge because at times it was like making a movie with miniatures... really fun, but really challenging. Production Designer Mayling Cheng and her team did an extraordinary job with the sets; the dollhouse was a unique and delicate work of art — a set within a set! Director of Photography James Chressanthis created some of the most beautiful lighting in the most cramped spaces that we've ever seen in the Ghost Whisperer world. He helped bring the whole thing to life in a calm, beautiful way. Of course, the rest of the Ghost Whisperer team did great work too. They are not only talented, but also extremely patient.
"Cursed" guest stars Young Artist Award winner Darcy Rose Byrnes as Drew Stanton (The Young and the Restless), Michelle Page as Emma Silber (Castle, Saving Grace and The Mentalist), and Bellamy Young as Lucy Stanton (Dirty Sexy Money, CSI: Miami and Two and a Half Men.)
By the way, next week's episode (May 8th) "Endless Love" was written by P.K. and directed by Ian. Alexa Vega guest stars (you should remember this now charming young lady from Spy Kids.) Also, Gail O'Grady from NYPD Blue and American Dreams plays her mom. If you liked Twilight (the book and/or the movie) you'll love this episode, which leads into the Season 4 Finale on May 15th.
Back to tonight's episode. "Cursed" features some great music including Laura Izibor's song "Shine" (Atlantic Records), Detroit native MoZella's song "Thank You" (Universal Motown) and indie artists: Buddy's "Is It Cold In Silverlake?" and Honey Pie's "Uh Oh."
