In honor of Veterans Day we are hosting a special in collaboration with the Entertainment Industry Foundation. We're so excited for this opportunity to partner with them as well as multi-platinum recording artist Jewel. It's so important to be able to make a difference for those who have given so much for our freedom and since today is Veterans Day, we have the opportunity to do just that.
Through my years on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition we've met so many great heroes. Recently I was able to travel back to Kansas City to check on the Gilyeat family who I've have stayed really good friends with. Daniel Glyeat's story especially impacted me. In 2003, Daniel went to Iraq and like many others he risked his life on a daily basis to defend our freedom. It was during his second tour in Iraq when he went on a mission in enemy territory and lost his leg in a tank mine. He was pronounced dead twice on the way to the hospital and yet managed to survive.
Daniel is someone who has really taken his experience and used it help others and pay it forward. He has done so many amazing things since we left. He became involved with an organization called Helping Heroes and now travels the country helping other wounded soldiers. He has made such a tremendous impact on so many others and he continues to give back day after day. It's an honor to know him and to have been able to meet so many other heroes that have given so much for us.
Along with our very talented musical co-host we have some amazing guests from Major League Baseball who are coming out to show their support for the cause. Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies, Daniel Murphy from the New York Mets and Clay Buchholz from the Boston Red Sox will be with us to honor these very special people.
Be sure to join us this Friday November 11, 2011 to support and honor our Veterans and service men and women. If you want to make a big difference supporting these men and women please go to Riseandhonor.org. Thank you all for your support and for joining with us for this very special cause.
