Rocky Carroll, NCIS: Leon from Cincinnati

Hello again,

Thank you for all of your well-wishes for my mother. I told her there's a wonderful community of folks that I chat with via the Internet who are pulling for her.

I'm enjoying your comments and questions about NCIS. I think it's been an exciting season and it's not over yet. We just finished filming the second installment of Legend, the NCIS spinoff. Some of you have expressed apprehension about a spinoff. One thing is certain — the spinoff will get off to a good start since it will be shown as two NCIS episodes this season. Eventually the spinoff will succeed or not based on its own merits and if you, the viewing public, respond positively to it. Time will tell; I wish them the best.

Time to respond to a few of your questions. First, I have to reply to inhim4448: Are your initials E.K.? if so, we have some catching up to do. Please let me know how best to get in touch with you.

Erin Lee: You asked about scripts and the process of memorizing lines. Well, it helps to be a quick study. We do a table read of a new episode a couple of days before we start filming it. There are rewrites almost every day during the eight-day shooting period. So it's not a good idea to go home and memorize all your lines in a script because you could wake the next morning and find revised script pages at your front door. So, a lot of memorizing is done on the fly. When you have 14-hour shooting schedules, you find time to learn and memorize the new lines that have been added to a script.

vjw: Thank you for your kind words. I will pass on your message to the wonderful Paula Newsome.

Mrs. Vance: Paula and I went to college together, we've been friends for a long time. A long time. Some of you may already know this: In the "Knockout" episode, we learned that Vance came to Chicago as a young man, but was originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. The writer of that episode (Jesse Stern) decided that my real hometown was suitable for Vance. Thanks, Jesse.

Taylor Carlson: To answer your question, it was a blast to come in at the end of last season and play the guy who breaks up the team! I knew that I would suffer the wrath of most NCIS fans. I just held on tight and waited for the writers to "right the ship" in future episodes. It's been a great ride for me. I also love communicating with those of you who follow NCIS. It's important that you know a bit about the actor who plays the role of Vance. What you ultimately think about Vance is out of my control, but what you think about Rocky Carroll means a great deal to me. You've probably figured that out already.

As always, I look forward to your thoughts,
Rocky Carroll
