Major Crimes Creator Reflects on "Pick Your Poison" and Rusty

Graham Patrick Martin

Here's a short post to talk about our continuing story on Major Crimes: the ordeal of the material witness, Rusty Beck, as he travels toward his appointment with destiny.

Series regulars on crime shows tend to represent those most responsible for the proper arrest of a criminal. But the justice system oftentimes depends on witnesses; even DNA evidence must be presented by the person who analyzed it, providing a human face and voice to the dryer aspects of court proceedings... read more

The Biggest Loser's David Brown on His New Thanksgiving Traditions

Daveid Brown, Ruben Studdard

Traditions are an important part of my life.  I remember growing up how fun it was to get the whole extended family together for Thanksgiving dinner, to hear the stories from my grandparents, to watch football with the men, to play games outside with the cousins, and of course eat at least a bite from every single dish the women of our family made.  Today, we still get together with every side of the family to do most all those same things, but we've since added 2two newer traditions.

The first new tradition is we share meals with those less fortunate in our community because serving is an important family value. The second new tradition we adopted was after my first wife Andrea passed away, and we started releasing balloons with notes tied to them as a tribute to her.  Both new traditions serve as important reminders to our family as to what is truly important in life and how blessed we are, which I guess is what Thanksgiving is really all about... and even being thousands of miles away from my family this week, I was able to live out those two new traditions in unique ways.

Major Crimes Creator James Duff Previews "Pick Your Poison"

Major Crimes

Major Crimes returns this Monday, November the 25th, with eight new episodes running through the holidays and on into the first of two weeks of January. Last summer ended as  threatening letters to Rusty were discovered by DDA Emma Rios, and Sharon Raydor was taking her material witness into Chief Taylor's office for a conference on his future... read more

Biggest Loser's David: I Have a New and Revitalized Belief in Myself

David Brown

Everyone deserves a second chance - everyone.  Walking back into the house to kick off Week 6, Ruben was waiting on us with his big, warm, signature smile.  The Red Team felt whole again, and knew this was the start of what was going to be a really good week - we hoped anyway!  I don't know if you had been as tired as we were of the Blue Team winning everything in sight, but the Red Team just believed this week's challenge was going to be different. read more

The Biggest Loser's David Brown Tackles Halloween Candy

David Brown

I remember growing up being in a "sugar-coma" for the entire week after Halloween.  I would literally blow through thousands of calories of chocolate bars, wafer candies and peanut butter cups each and every day until my bag of candy was down to the not-so-choice leftovers.  Be honest now, licorice and those sticks of candy "glue" that you could never get out of your teeth, those are just not worth the time it takes to unwrap them!

Biggest Loser's David: "Excuses Have Never Helped Me Lose a Pound"

David Brown

I was morbidly obese and needed to do something extreme to change that. The truth is I needed help to "save my life." I know there are likely many of you reading this blog who do too, but will probably never have the same opportunity I've had to do it on The Biggest Loser ranch.  I mean, if you could have met your health goals by now, wouldn't you have done so already?

I walked onto the ranch full of doubts about myself, and lots of excuses.  In fact, if my excuses were bricks, I'm talking about The Great Wall of China.  Week 3 proved to me just how flimsy my excuses had always been.  In the first two weeks, I had finally gotten comfortable with certain machines and go-to exercises in the gym, which, as we all know, means it must be time to take all of those options away - Ha!

The first ever Bigger Loser Gym Auction found our Red Team bidding against the Blue and White teams for exclusive use of specific equipment for the week... read more

The Biggest Loser's David Blogs Week 2: "I Have to Choose Myself First"

The Biggest Loser

Week 2 has historically been a low weight-loss week on The Biggest Loser, so with frequent reminders of such from our trainers, the pressure was there to motivate us from the beginning of the week.  I actually had a little pep in my step because I had just come off an amazing 38-pound loss in Week 1, and so I felt a lot more confident headed to the gym to workout with Dolvett this time around.  I even finished the workout strong!

Biggest Loser Contestant David Brown: I Had a Pit in My Stomach Walking Toward the Gym

David Brown

My name is David Brown, Season 15 contestant on the NBC show The Biggest Loser, and it will be my honor to be blogging for TVGuide.com each and every week of the season.  The objective for me here will be the same as it was on the ranch, to be as open and authentic to the process as possible, and to share my thoughts and fears and triumphs in hopes they impact others seeking to positively change something in their own lives.  I will say right up front, it will be the hardest thing you will do, but I promise you this, it will be worth it.

Major Crimes Creator James Duff Calls Summer Finale Best Episode Yet

Mary McDonnell, Michael Paul Chan, G.W. Bailey

Our summer season comes to an end with what many of us believe is the best episode of Major Crimes so far. I won't go into a long explanation here about the difference between spree killers and serial killers except to say that, usually, spree killers are much more impulsive and lack an exit strategy, while serial killers mainly want to get away with it. Consider the differences between Andrew Cunanan, who buckled under stress and then murdered his way across the United States, and the Zodiac Killer, who has yet to be found.

Major Crimes Creator James Duff Previews "Backfire"

Americans like their privacy.

Yes, here we go again with another episode of Major Crimes that was written and produced before a big news story took over the front pages and, once again, I remind our viewers that the show is not about politics. I don't know whether having informers and wires and cameras everywhere is a good or a bad idea, though I will express some pity for those tasked with analyzing American e-mails: after reading the first one hundred explanations of why spouses cheat on each other, I am pretty sure you have read them all. Even sex in the Twitterverse - lit up by pictures of politicians in various states of undress — begins to seem banal after so much...overexposure. Personally, I think a nonporous wall between our public and personal lives is a good idea, and that protections afforded our privacy by the Constitution are central to American liberty. But we live in a complicated age... read more
