We're Back!

When I read that Steadman blew his head off, I was totally surprised! That's what I love about Prison Break [Mondays at 8 pm/ET, on Fox] — I can never guess what's gonna happen next.As for Bellick, he's in for a rude awakening. Ouch!It seems like nothing is the way it seems on this show. Both Kellerman and Mahone are two-faced, so which face is gonna look at you next? The only "good" guys left are the Brothers, Sucre and C-Note. They are running for love and family. I ain't even gonna talk about T-Bag — what's he running for?The scripts continue to be page-turners full of unexpected twists and turns. We are shooting Episode 219 — that's five episodes ahead of what's airing — and we're dealing with the Texas weather's twists and turns. It doesn't get as cold as Chicago, but we have had some sleet and ice. Makes for some cold and frosty days on location. Even the threat of ice or snow shuts Dallas down. They close the schools here over a bad weather report!Rumors a... read more

Blogging Along....

Kate Flannery, aka The Office's Meredith, here. Just a quick word this week. "The Coup" is showing this week and it is a rerun with some of the best Michael/Dwight scenes. I love the Dwight/Jan scenes. Melora Hardin (Jan) is so hilarious. She plays her comedy straight up. No mixer, no ice. Neat. Like a three-finger pour. Dry. I am thirsty.I am just coming down from the Golden Globes high. I returned my borrowed jewels and wiped the residual eyelash glue out my eyes. Being an actor is so insane. This week has been really fun. We have been shooting a very big episode this week that I can't speak about yet, but it involves love and cake. My costume was reminiscent of that NBC classic comedy, Golden Girls — you know, shoulder pads and gold thread. Meredith is as real as the woman behind the desk at your local DMV. Reality in fashion. That's The Office. The Office is getting bigger and better. Last week's episode put the ratings through the roof. The Office was the No. 1 sitcom last ... read more

Bed, Bat and... the Bears!

I think I've used up all of my good karma for a long while, what with Men in Trees getting picked up and moved to after Grey's Anatomy, and the swift and crushing Bears victory on Sunday. To be honest, I'm not a huge football aficionado in general, but I am from Chicago, so I really have no choice but to be a rabid and unquestioning Bears fan. Our producer, Rick Wallace, also hails from the Windy City, so we've been spending a lot of Sundays at the local Vancouver sports bar, along with John Amos, who plays Buzz. Here's some Men in Trees trivia for you: John Amos used to play football for the Kansas City Chiefs! You don't have to wait until the Super Bowl to see some Bears action, because we have a very special appearance by a bear on tonight's episode of Men in Trees, "Bed, Bat and Beyond." From the title you may be able to guess that a certain winged creature will also be making an appearance. I know I've been talking about how much we all love each other up here on the show, but t... read more

Blogging in a Winter Wonderland

Excuse me if this blog is a little bleary-eyed, but I'm on an early-morning plane back to Vancouver after attending the ABC All-Star Party last night. It sounds like a sporting event, but it's really just a gathering in a hotel ballroom where actors mingle with TV critics, get photographed in pretty clothes, and eat free sushi. I must say, I did feel like I was "on the TV" when I stood on the red carpet in a borrowed dress, watching the flashbulbs pop. A few minutes later, I had to go back and do a live interview at the beginning of the whole press line, which involved sneaking past the back of the red carpet, my cream high-heeled boots sinking into the dirt of the flower beds. The universe always has a way of keeping me humble. This week's episode of Men in Trees [Thursdays at 10 pm/ET] is "History Lessons," or as we called it, the never-ending rummage sale. What will be about 15 minutes on screen took us days to shoot. Luckily the rummage sale was hosted by Mai (Lauren Tom), so we ... read more

Where Are We? Where Do We Go?

So. Hi. Happy 2007. Been a while since I've posted on the inner workings of Brothers & Sisters [Sundays at 10 pm/ET, on ABC], the oddly popular serio-comic series of which I am the titular creator. We're closing in on the home stretch of our first season here, with six more episodes to write and nine more to shoot. (ABC ordered an extra three episodes, to make up for having never aired the original pilot and scrapping an episode early on, so that instead of a back nine, we have a back 12.)And where are we headed for the remainder of the season?Kitty Walker's relationship with Senator McAllister will deepen and prove more challenging, more public, more difficult. Now that we signed the absurdly talented Rob Lowe as a special guest star, McAllister will be given a much bigger outline in the life of the Walkers — and indeed the political life of the country. His ambitions to higher office will thrust the family into an uncomfortably public light, and Kitty will be forced to de... read more

January 21, 2007: The Riggins Family

One of the great things about my job is the travel — touring America, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the real communities that intertwine to create the very fabric of American society. This week we roll the bus into Raleigh, North Carolina, and without exception — from everyone we met — we got such a feeling of giving and community through the altruism of these strangers coming together to help this one amazing family. Maybe it's a Southern thing — you know, that famous Southern hospitality. It sure taught me a thing or two about what it means to truly be selfless, to not have very much but still find it within yourself to give. Our family, the Riggins, will always have a special place in my heart. Linda Riggins is a phenomenal human being. She gives and gives of herself to the family and her neighbors. She is a superhero. I can't say enough about her, through all the troubles in her life that she battles every day. Her husband, William, is legally bl... read more

January 18, 2007: Oscar's Return

Hello, Office fans. The Office drunk with the red hair here with all the Golden Globe news for Dunder-Mifflin fans. Do not mourn our loss the other night, friends. Do not. No, we did not walk away with a statuette. But we did walk away with the hearts of millions! At least that's what I tell myself. Everyone was so excited to see us there. Even real movie stars watch The Office. And how bad can you feel dolled up in a designer gown?!This week's episode is about Oscar's return ("The Return"). How ironic that the Golden Globes and "Oscars" are both in the same week! If I tell you what happened that day you would not believe it. I had a hectic day of hair and makeup. (In all honesty, I went to someone new, and I kind of felt like I looked like Phyllis Smith and Rashida Jones in last week's episode, when they drove out of the beauty parlor.) Beauty can be stressful, especially because I am getting used to Meredith's minimal documentary-style makeup. I wore a copper-colored satin dress b... read more

Happy New Year!

CBS' The Unit is back from holiday hiatus with a new episode [airing this Tuesday at 9 pm/ET]. In "The Broom Cupboard," the unit is assigned to protect a Texas senator who is touring in a hostile country. And Jonas is given a secret assignment by the president, played by William H. Macy, while Molly, Kim and Tiffy plan a surprise for Crystal.I spent the holidays back in Dallas. I love taking long walks every day through my neighborhood. Rolling hills and wide open sky. I think that limitless horizon inspires a body to dream — I can’t help but to wander off on your own way. I remember as a child catching hell a few times for being a little “off the beaten track,” but I got Texas grit in my veins.... I kept stepping. Sometimes you have to make your own individual path.Audrey Marie “Hepburn” Anderson knows about that sky. She’s another fellow Texan from Fort Worth. Audrey is eclectic. An inventive cook and a great photographer, she makes her own funky... read more

January 14, 2007, Episode: The Noyola Family

Good morning, Noyola family! Every time we roll into a new city, we are filled with nervous anticipation to meet the next family. That morning bus ride is always an exciting time for us designers. It’s our first look into the lives of the families we are about to meet — our first time to formulate what we plan to do for them over the next seven days. It is our first chance to learn about them and their story, and — my favorite part — the first chance to help make a difference in the lives of people who need it most. You never know what the family story will hold. Many times we are met with tears. This family, the Noyolas, however, only elicits smiles from all of us as we near the house. The Noyolas are a wonderful family that has overcome tough times and has grown into the type of family that all of us would love to know. Dad had a tough past, and Mom stayed by his side over the years. They both made a conscious decision to turn their lives around and be the very... read more

January 11, 2007: "Traveling Salesmen"

Happy new year, Office fans. Meredith here. Last week's episode was on during my vacation, but now I am back! This week's episode is "Traveling Salesmen." Have you seen the promos with Phyllis and Karen with big hair and too much makeup? Hilarious. Pennsylvania women have it going on. I'd like to give more away, but I can't — I can't remember much. It's not just the booze. I have to fit 10 pounds of news in a five-pound bag! We shot it eight weeks ago, and we've had a break for the past eight weeks. And in those eight weeks we all traveled and did cool stuff, like get talk shows and do Vegas gigs and get nominated for two Golden Globe Awards (one for Steve Carell and one for best comedy). We also got nominated for two SAG Awards (one for Steve Carell and one for Best Ensemble in a Comedy). While children are starving in Africa, I am working hard on getting my dress — the SAG Awards do not refer to our aging bodies. Too bad, after all those Christmas cookies. As most of you... read more
