American Idol contestants don't have to worry about Ellen DeGeneres being fair, she says.
"I'm going to be a great judge because I've spent my whole life being judged," DeGeneres says on an episode of her talk show scheduled to air Tuesday. "So I know what it's like."

When DeGeneres took on the open spot vacated by Paula Abdul, she knew she would face criticisms. But she says she won't let unkind words affect her judging style. "I will be kind, I will be compassionate, I will be empathetic and I will be truthful. I will be an honest judge without being mean."
