It might seem like 1999 was just yesterday, but its actually been two decades since Backstreet Boys and 'Nsync ruled the charts, and since the 56th Golden Globes took place, but looking back at some of the photos, you might think it was another lifetime entirely. From the zany hair and fashion styles of the era to the couples you forgot existed and the titles of shows and movies that were being celebrated at the event, it's a true blast to the past to revisit the 1999 Globes. Let's take a look.

Angelina Jolie was just breaking into the fame game.
Long before she was all tatted up and spreading goodwill across the globe, Angelina Jolie was still working her way up to household name status as she collected her second Golden Globe -- this time, for her starring role in the HBO film Gia. She arrived with her brother James Haven, though it would be another year before they'd make headlines for the Oscars kiss heard 'round the world. She still put on a show for fans, though, when she took a dip in the Beverly Hilton pool to make good on a promise to her fans.
Loose curls were so in that year.
Hollywood soirees might ordinarily inspire a bunch of updos, but in 1999, beach-ready waves were all the rage. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz and Annette Bening were some of the simple style adopters that evening.
Chunky updos still were everywhere, too.
For those whose tresses may not have cooperated quite as well with the styling iron and/or Sprunch Spray, bulky updos with a few loose strands to frame the face were also quite popular: Courtney Thorne-Smith, Melanie Griffith, Cate Blanchett and more could be seen sporting the look.
The Best Things to Ever Happen at the Golden Globes
People were also all about the two-piece gown sets.
As one of the last '90s-tastic trends of the millennium, taffeta two-piece dresses made a big impression on the style choices of Golden Globes attendants that year, as worn by Kim Basinger, Calista Flockhart and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Jack Nicholson had a blast.
Jack Nicholson was obviously pretty pumped to accept his Cecil B. DeMille Award that year.

Steven Spielberg was still king of the movie scene.
Saving Private Ryan scored Steven Spielberg statuettes for Best Director and Best Motion Picture (in the drama category), which was a preview for all the Academy Awards love the movie would later receive as well.
Purple and gray were the it colors.
Actresses like Roma Downey, Lynn Redgrave and Laura Linney made sure all shades of purple was the were represented on the red carpet, while others like Portia de Rossi and Jodie Foster were feeling good in gray that day.
There were some long-forgotten ex-couples.
Look at Billy Bob Thornton and Laura Dern! Christina Applegate and Johnathon Schaech! Who even remembers when these couples happened?!
There were also some actors that we've since lost.
Bill Paxton and Christopher Reeve were both in good spirits at the 1999 Golden Globes -- nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for their roles in A Bright Shining Lie and Rear Window,respectively -- but sadly, both have since passed away, so seeing them all-smiles like this is bittersweet indeed.
